Online Electrician Classes and Courses Overview

Online electrician classes are available to help students pass the National Electric Code exam. Students can take introductory lessons on topics that include safety, electrical circuiting or an NEC class.

Summary of Online Electrician Classes

Students can take online electrician classes and graduates can find work in several different electrical industries, including building construction and equipment supply. A large number of states require electricians to have licensing with the National Electric Code. Distance learning classes can help students build the knowledge needed to pass the NEC exam.

Class Requirements

These courses primarily rely on independent study, including reading text books, creating electrical models and completing exams. Students need access to the Internet and a current computer with a CD-ROM drive to complete the classes. Exams are submitted using the Internet and help is available online.

List of Online Electrician Classes

Electricians and Safety

This course provides an overview of safety procedures, including the proper use of tools, maintenance of safety gear, including face shields, helmets, gloves and appropriate clothing. Students will also learn how to notify other workers of safety hazards, properly use a fire extinguisher and develop safe work habits. Different work hazards will also be discussed, such as static electricity and incorrect use of circuits.

Electrical Circuiting

Students will be introduced to electrical laws in this class, such as Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Voltage Law and their applications. AC circuits will be the primary focus in this class; however, students will also need to be able to identify characteristics of parallel circuits and series circuits. Problem-solving techniques will also be demonstrated through online tutorials.

Electrical Blueprints

Electricians need to understand electrical blueprints and how to create and read them. Blueprint information such as icons, inferences and functions will be examined in this class. Students may be asked to identify circuit features on blueprints or design their own to successfully complete the class.

National Electric Code

Most states require electricians to be licensed with the National Electric Code. This class highlights major NEC revisions and provides an overview of the NEC. This class is not required to take the NEC exam; however, this class does help students to understand and familiarize themselves with NEC codes that feature prominently on the exam.
