At some point in time, all most everyone
finds themselves in need of some type of first aid, either for
themselves, a family member or stranger. First aid courses are offered
in online, hybrid and on-campus formats. Courses may be taken for
personal use or as part of certificate or degree programs and can cover a
variety of first aid issues, such as burns, broken bones, bleeding and
CPR.
First aid courses typically consist of two parts, coursework and
skills training. In online classes, coursework can usually completed
over the Internet, while the skills training portion of the course takes
place in person. Completion of first aid courses is often a requirement
in many schools and businesses, especially for management personnel.
Upon completion of first aid training, students often receive a
certificate, which is typically good for two years. First aid training
may also be the first step for a career in emergency medical services
(EMT); EMTs and paramedics may also need to periodically take first aid
refresher courses to keep their licensing current.

computer with access to the Internet and an e-mail address for
correspondence. Coursework can be delivered in various formats, such as

lectures; so computers must be equipped with sufficient RAM and
processor speed to support these learning formats. Media drives,
