Online EMT-Paramedic Courses, Classes and Training Information

Students can receive EMT-Paramedic courses, classes or training in a variety of learning formats, including online, blended and on-campus. Hands-on field experiences must be performed at a designated site. Online EMT-Paramedic courses - which are typically part of certificate and degree programs - teach students all aspects of emergency and pre-hospital medical care.

Online EMT-Paramedic Courses

Online EMT-Paramedic classes are offered at many colleges and vocational schools through online or distance learning programs. These courses are aimed at students interested in a career in emergency medical services. EMT-Paramedic courses and training are usually offered in a blended format, with the didactic part of the curriculum - classroom lectures - taken online and the laboratory clinical or field internships at a campus or hospital site.
Students enrolled in EMT-Paramedic classes online can earn certificates, associate's degrees in paramedic technology or bachelor's degrees in emergency medical services. Those who successfully complete the courses may qualify to sit for the National Registry of EMT-Paramedics (NREMTP) examination. Graduates can find employment opportunities working for hospitals, ambulance services, fire departments and other businesses providing emergency medical services.

Online Requirements

Students taking online EMT-Paramedic classes need a computer with a recent Windows or Mac operating system, high-speed Internet access, a Web browser, a word processing program and an e-mail address. Many schools use a learning management application such as Blackboard, but course materials may also be delivered via streaming audio and video files, web conferencing and recordings. Computers must meet basic software and hardware requirements to support online learning. Courses that use multimedia content require computers to have a sound card with headphones and speakers. Students are required to purchase the necessary textbooks and materials.
