Overview of Distance Appliance Repair Classes

Appliance repair technicians perform diagnostic tests and complete repairs on various types of home appliances. Due to the hands-on nature of the job, training is usually offered in classroom or workplace settings. Some for-profit career schools and public education providers offer home-study programs in appliance repair. While not online, these classes can be completed by mail with telephone support. A digital multimeter and multimeter operating manual are usually provided for this portion of the class.

Microwave Appliance Class

Students are introduced to the basics of microwave oven repair, including the theories of electromagnetic energy and its use in heat conduction. Topics include microwave assembly, troubleshooting, repair and operation. Supplemental information on the testing and repair of cordless appliances may be included.

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Class

Students have an opportunity to perform tests and to complete repairs on larger motor-driven appliances, including domestic refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. An overview of the major mechanical parts and operating principles, advances in refrigeration technology and information on humidity control appliances is also included.
