Best Online Schools for HVAC: List of Schools

Engineering technology and technician training programs in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are offered by many schools, but distance learning options are limited. Two schools that offer online programs in HVAC technology are Ferris State University (FSU) and Excelsior College.

Top Online Programs in HVAC Technology

1. Ferris State University

Ferris State University is a public university that offers over 170 programs leading to associate, bachelor's or master's degrees; two professional doctorates are also available. U.S. News & World Report listed Ferris State University in the top tier of its 2011 ranking of the best regional universities in the Midwest.
The school offers an online program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Engineering Technology. Applicants to the program should have a fundamental understanding of HVACR through practical work experience and must already hold an associate degree in HVAC technology or an equivalent educational qualification. The curriculum includes courses in contracting issues in HVACR, direct digital control, energy audit and analysis, control theory and commercial HVAC system design. Although graduates are not eligible to become licensed engineers, they may find employment in engineering and architectural practices or facilities operations and management departments.
